Rebuilding an Intel DZ77RE-75K based system using the Gigabyte G170X-Gaming GT board. Processor selected Intel I7-6700K with GSkill DDDR4-3000 16Gb memory stick. System disk is a Samsung Pro 250 - with Windows 7 x64 installed from the Intel based system. When I shut down this system I had the OS drive - two other SSDs in a Raid 0 configuration and two HDDs used for storage, etc. There were two DVD rewriters installed and operational. I replaced a semi-modular Thermaltake 850 PSU with a Corsair RM750i full modular PSU.
After a couple of hiccups I got the build to boot to Windows 7 and thought I would be able to complete the next day. What I did not learn until the next morning when none of my installed programs were able to find the code - was that the Samsung was the only SSD or HDD the system saw. In addition neither of the DVDs were even powered - no lights, nada. Thinking I perhaps erred when I did not replace the Thermaltake drive power cables I replaced the one powering the the two DVDs. Happily one of the DVDs had power; in spite of being on the same cable the other DVD still had no power. Wondering if I might solve HDD missing by replaceing the power cables - I did that. NADA! No difference.
I was able to use the operational DVD drive to install the Gigabyte utilities that were provided. I disavowed all the Google suggestions and deferred the utilities offered. After that install I rebooted - nothing different. The only two SATA drives I saw were the DVD and the Samsung SSD.
This is not my first attempt at building or upgrading a machine. Probably have at least 10 completed and operational - this one has me stumped. I admit I know next to nothing of the UEFI option and what the implication(s) might be. Near as I can tell that should not make any difference on the drive visibility.
I believe that I am missing something trivial at this point. The machine boots into W7 - and appears all is well - just can not find the unseed drives. BTW, the drives are not visible in BIOS either.
Any ideas on what I am missing?
