I've got a machine here with a weird problem. The device manager is not automatically installing drivers for usb devices. ie. usb sticks.
Things I have tried include hints from this thread:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/246585-45-windows-auto-installing-drivers
- registry entries seem ok
and
MrFixIt from Microsoft link:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows-vista/tips-for-solving-problems-with-usb-devices
- detects an issue but not able to resolve
also
a) sfc /scannow - no errors
b) Scanned for viruses and spyware with ComboFix, Kaspersky, MalwareBytes - some minor stuff detected, but nothing fixed.
c) Removed Universal Host Controllers from device manager - when I restart the computer they are detected again and drivers install correctly, but still same problem when I attach a USB device like a usb stick or usb mouse.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated! (and don't tell me to reinstall a fresh copy of windows, trying to avoid that)
